Coming soon, a list of simple ways to fight the factional overlords and drive them crazy.
- Don’t join a faction.
- If you do join a faction, keep an independent mind.
- Don’t have aspirations of a political career or job, instead spend your time fighting for party democracy. Doing this means that factions have very few ways to intimidate you.
- Don’t ever follow factional How To Vote cards.
- Don’t vote immediately in internal ballots, wait and see what the candidates have to say. No matter how quickly you receive those mysterious SMS messages asking for support.
- Don’t allow factions to dominate your branch. Aspire to have a balanced branch.
- Read and learn more about how the party works.
- Make sure you are aware of which MPs and Senators are in what faction and what union is part of what faction.
- Ask uncomfortable questions such as “Are you an independent member? Or are you in a faction?”
- Speak up and speak out against things that go against your principles of democracy.
- Report any suspicious or unfair behaviour.
- Make sure all positions go to a vote., especially with State and Federal pre-selections.
- Pass reform motions through your branch.
- Join pro-democracy groups such as Local Labor and Open Labor.
- Share pro-democracy articles on your social media.
- Donate to and support outsider candidates, they often make the best MPs. Also support MPs and candiates who may be factional, but still outspoken on reform.
- Get involved in other areas of the party and make friends in all factions.
- Become familiar with the old tired arguments put up against reform. Hone your skills of rebuttal.
- Make friends in the reform movement, build your own local team.
- Never lose sight of your values and why you started down this road.
